Locating that elusive part with the Alert feature!
We've all been there at one time or another in our car building days. Searching every known auto forum for that one part that you just have to have to cap off your project. Some are much harder to find than others. In my case, I had been looking for a brand new, in box (BNIB) or lightly used Mugen valve cover (pictured) to complete my 1992 Honda Civic (EG6). It was undergoing a restoration, and already consisted of many of the high end Honda tuners components. Years of searching and trying to remember my damn login/password for the forums finally paid off though (I still don't remember my passwords). I did score that rare, ultra clean Mugen valve cover that I had always lust over.
That was just one such experience in my car building endeavours and thankfully there is now a much easier way to hunt down these elusive parts faster and easier. Turns out I wasn't the only one that saw the need for a used part and modified car marketplace. A couple buddies of mine decided to take a crack at developing such a marketplace and have created what is now known as throtl.com - a used car/part marketplace and search engine developed for enthusiasts to buy and sell their parts. Sure, other marketplaces exist but, nothing like this. Not having to deal with seller fees and auctions or scammers as you do with other outlets is a breath of fresh air. And, taking the part hunt to another level is the keyword search feature. If throtl had existed back then, I could have simply created an alert and once a Mugen valve cover was listed (or any part you wish) I would've received an email notification telling me that one had just been posted for sale. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!?! And that's just scratching the surface of the throtl.com tools. If you haven't already signed up for the site, do so. It's free and there's a very good chance you are going to find items you need for your project on there. Go on! Happy part hunting.
